Bakery Cottage is a charming character cottage with three-bedrooms situated in the heart of the Wem conservation area. The property is not Listed, but is thought to date from the 1700s.
The property is entered via the front entrance door which leads into straight into the lounge. A particular feature of the property, the lounge is cosy with an inglenook style fireplace, beams and dual aspect, sympathetically replaced uPVC double glazed windows. A small built-in cupboard is located in the corner
Off the lounge is a small dining room, again with period features, including a serving hatch which currently gives access into the rear hall.
The galley style kitchen is accessed from the rear hall, and offers scope for some improvement – a portioned wall currently shields the original bakery oven but offers potential for the kitchen to be extended and this original feature reincorporated into the property.
The conservatory is accessed from the kitchen and gives out into the pretty, well maintained garden.
Stairs from the lounge up to the first-floor where there are three double bedrooms.
The first bedroom at the top of the stairs has been used as a guest bedroom and has painted wooden panelling with a rear facing uPVC window. To the front opposite is smaller room, with dual aspect windows. The third bedroom, also to the front and opposite the family bathroom, has a large ‘walk-in’ cupboard that could be adapted to a wardrobe.
All three bedrooms again are full of character with beams and sloping ceilings.
The family bathroom again offers scope for some refurbishment and is fitted with a white-coloured suite consisting of a bath, wash hand basin and WC with half tiled walls. A large cupboard containing the hot water tank and ‘airing cupboard’ facilities offers potential to extend the bathroom further.
Outside
The secure garden has been lovingly tended by the current owner, and has a pleasant patio area for outside entertaining, with storage sheds and original outhouse. There is side access, giving out onto Noble Street, to allow for refuse collection.
Situated a little way down Noble Street, is a separate garage, in a communal area, offering storage should it be required.
The Local Area
The property is situated in the heart of Wem, in close walking distance of the town centre and the local shops and amenities. There are excellent doctors, dentists, schools and independent shops within the town, as well as a supermarket and a good selection of pubs and eateries.
The larger towns of Shrewsbury and Whitchurch are only a few miles drive away, and there are rail links directly from Wem Station to Crewe to the north, and Shrewsbury, Birmingham and London to the south.
